In response to: The impact of Property Taxes on your Saline real estate

Anne,

Thanks for visiting, and for your comment. You're welcome here any time!

Your experience is all too common, yet the most common refrain we hear from most taxing authorities is "We need more revenue!" It is a posture like that which drives many buyers to look elsewhere for housing, thereby depriving us of an even more vibrant community than we already have here in Saline.

Local, State, and Federal governments need to live the way that most of us live - within our means. If the tax revenue is down (somewhat like a family member losing their job and having to take a new job at a lower wage), the government needs to pare back first, rather than jumping first at raising taxes in the community. Hey, those of us in the community are already hurting - we sure don't need to be punished further by increased property (or other) taxes!

hi Vance,

Great info! I moved from pittsfield twp to city of Saline, and i have felt the tax increase from doing so. We looked to stay in pittsfield or move to Lodi, it was as a last resort that we moved to City of Saline.Sad.. but the huge property taxes is a real deterrant to moving here.

In response to: A word picture of Saline real estate

An astute observation, Scot. I haven't written enough about the schools to make it onto the word map. Wordle makes the picture based on the number of word mentions.

You've prompted me to think of ways to include our great schools into my articles more frequently. Thank you!
