Another reason to move to Saline - the Saline Area Schools!

Tonight I attended the Saline Area Schools (SAS) Board of Education meeting at the Historic Union School.  The primary order of business was a Technology report, led by SAS Technology Director Ken Lupo.  The presentation consisted of reports from four teachers in the schools - and each of the reports was both enlightening and exhilarating!

• Mr. Bush gave a report about Technology education at the High School, covering his teaching of both digital photography (which my daughter had in the first trimester this year) and video presentation.
• Mrs. Kellstrom gave a report about podcasting of a classroom project at Harvest elementary, where the kids were learning about kinetic and potential energy through a roller-coaster design project.  (Think about this - our 9-year olds are learning about Podcasting!)
• Mrs. McEvoy gave a report about the introduction of computers and technology to kindergartners (5 years old!) at Houghton elementary, where the kids learned about the difference between snail mail (The USPS) and e-mail.
• Ms. Denzin gave a report on the use of Moodle in her teaching of a College Writing course at the High School, in comparison with the same class taught by other teachers without the use of technology.  I don't know much about Moodle, but what I saw just blew me away!  If only that technology had been available when I was in school!

I came away from the School Board meeting just floating on air.  Our children in the Saline Area Schools are so fortunate to have both an energized teaching staff, and an enlightened School Board who supports the teachers with the awesome power of technology.  Of course, having an outstanding School superintendant is a great benefit, too!

So if you're even THINKING about moving to the Saline area, DO IT!  You can't go wrong with the Saline Area Schools!
