Hidden Costs of Renting in Saline

Hidden costs of renting in Saline

Consider these costs before making your final decision.

Are you thinking of renting a Saline home?  (Original article written by Vance Shutes).  If so, you’ll want to be aware of some hidden costs of renting in Saline.

If you’re thinking of renting a Saline home, you’re probably thinking that your costs are limited to… rent.  Right?

Not necessarily.

There are some hidden costs of renting in Saline, including (but not limited to):

  • Opportunity costs:  When you rent, you lose out on the possibility of building up equity value in a home you own.
  • Income taxes:  When you rent, you lose out on the possibility of a tax deduction for the mortgage interest portion of your monthly payment.
  • Storage:  When you rent, the home you rent may not have enough “space” for all of your stuff.  You may have to add the monthly expense of a storage unit for all of your stuff.
  • Improvement costs:  If you spend money to “spruce up” the home you rent, you lose out on the cash you invested in the property.
  • Deposits:  You MAY lose out on your security or pet deposit if you damage the home you rent beyond what is “reasonable and ordinary”.

The bottom line is that your monthly rent payment isn’t necessarily the only cost you incur each month.  These hidden costs of renting in Saline can hit anyone who rents – something to keep in mind if you’re planning to live in the Saline area for more than a year or two.
