How an Engineer buys a home

A very organized approach...

Being an Engineer myself, it's easy for me to understand how an Engineer buys a home.  (Original article written by Vance Shutes).   Let's take a look at that subject today.

It is said that Engineers think differently.  I suppose this is as true as an Attorney thinks differently, or an Accountant, or a Poet.  Much of it has to do with the extensive mathematical training that Engineers receive.  Engineers learn how to break down a problem into simple elements, which can then be solved, leading to an overall solution to the problem.

Engineers are very organized.  Want proof?  Look at an Engineer's desk, or in their closet.  While showing homes, I can always tell an Engineer's home, by their organized closet!  Engineers approach their home purchase in the same way - very organized.  Engineers use checklists, patiently working down the list - just as they would approach the solution to a complex problem.  I've even seen an Engineer use a "T" chart in their home search - visibly comparing the "pro" and "con" of any home they consider.

Only after a thorough analysis of each property has satisfied the Engineer's need for organization will an Engineer make an emotional commitment to purchasing a home.

I recall a closing with a husband-and-wife team of Engineers from several years ago.  Several days before the closing, we reviewed the closing figures - a process which took at least an hour at their apartment.  I had forewarned the closing officer at the title company that they may need to allow for some extra time for closing.  Normally, closings take between 45 minutes and an hour.  Not so for these Engineers.  That closing took nearly three hours!  They read every single document - including the 17-page mortgage - from beginning to end.  As already written, Engineers just think differently!

If you're an Engineer looking to buy a Saline home or a Saline condo, consider working with a fellow Engineer!  Together we'll experience how an Engineer buys a home.

If you have questions about your specific situation, or if you're considering buying or selling any Saline real estate, you owe it to yourself to take advantage of my experience in the Saline market.  I'd be happy to meet with you!  Just give me a call at (734) 476-2063, or send an e-mail, "Vance (at) SalineMichiganRealEstate (dot) com".
