Leave a comment » My favorite Thanksgiving traditionsWhat are your Thanksgiving traditions? In two days, I get to engage in my favorite Thanksgiving traditions. When I wake each morning, I'm thankful to live in the greatest country ever known. We have so much to be thankful for, at all times. The day will begin by watching the annual parade from Detroit. Having lived in the area nearly my entire life, I still call it the Hudson's parade. My parents took me to the parade once when I was very young, but I cannot remember it much, although some of those memories return when I see the parade on TV each year. Later in the morning, rain or shine, we head outdoors to string up our outdoor Christmas decorations. Some years, we've been able to do so in our shirtsleeves. Other years, we're bundled up from head to toe. My parents are still with us, and still live in the home in which I grew up in Ann Arbor. My mom used to wear herself out in the kitchen on Thanksgiving day, but not anymore. That duty now falls to my wife - and I bless her for it every year! During the day, my wife draws names of our relatives on her side of the family, to determine our Christmas gift exchange. My wife has seven siblings, who typically gather at our home each year on Christmas eve for our gift exchange. Thanksgiving dinner is all about the turkey! We stuff ourselves with dressing (which I've called "stuffing" since I was a kid), mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes (baked, cut in slabs, then quickly fried in butter - MMMMMM!), carrots, and cranberries. Fairly standard stuff, but OH, so delicious! After dinner, we watch football. We time our dinner so that we (purposely) miss the JV game in Detroit. Who can watch that (poor substitute for) "professional" football? Our dinner usually ends in time to watch the real pros play in Dallas each year. Am I ever thankful for that! I've been a big Dallas fan since Tom Landry patrolled the sidelines. After football is over, it's time to take my parents back home, then return home for some family fun with a board game. We've had some AWESOME games of Monopoly on Thanksgiving days! Sometimes those games spill over into Friday, and even into the weekend. Someone always ends up with a monopoly. At the end of the day, after everything has been cleaned up, and the leftovers (OK, I know you were waiting for those leftovers) have been safely stowed in the fridge, it's time to sit back and say another big-time Thanks for all my family, friends, and clients. And that is something to be truly thankful for! If you like what you're reading here, please subscribe to my blog. Thanks!
