3 comments » The best of intentionsThe genesis of ideas....A lament about the best of intentions. I was greatly looking forward to a "tweetup" tomorrow in Ohio. For those who aren't on Twitter, a tweetup is meeting of followers of each other on Twitter. On Wednesday, October 22, there was to be a tweetup of MidWest bloggers in Ohio. The origination of this tweetup was a simple lunch meeting between myself and a fellow blogger/agent from Dayton, Ohio - Teri Lussier. The lunch grew with invitations to fellow real estate bloggers from the MidWest/Great Lakes region. One by one, they fell away. Alas, the tweetup is not to be. The reason to cancel the tweetup is a good thing - too much business to break away from for those still committed to attend. In such an economy, this is a good thing, especially for our clients. But in the long run, is it really a good thing for our client's agent? I wonder. A meeting of MidWest bloggers is a unique gathering. The MidWest is unique. Those who live here - Michigan, Ohio, Indiana - we know this. No other region of the country has suffered as we have - automotive job losses, the loss of our manufacturing capacity, the decline of our home values. No other region of the country has the assets we offer - primarily water (wink, wink, @Bawldguy) and recreational activities. Oh, and some (former) college football powerhouses. The MidWest led the country into this recession beginning in 2005. The MidWest will lead the country out of it. I had great hopes that this tweetup would have been a genesis of shared ideas which would result in greater service to our respective clients. It may yet be, but at a later date. More importantly, I'll miss the comraderie of some great agents, and great people. Alas, the best of intentions.

Comment from: Teri L [Visitor] Oh Vance. I do apologize. The hopeful news is that perhaps next time we can get more people to attend. I so agree that use MidWesterners need to really pull together, pool our ideas and resources and do the best for our clients. We can stay in touch online. :-) Comment from: Missy Caulk [Visitor] I'm sure it will happen Vance, we can learn a lot from each other. Comment from: Vance Shutes [Member] Teri and Missy, We will reschedule, and make the group grow. Thanks for your support and encouragement.
